Dr. Árpád Bokor - MATE Research
Overview
Dr. Árpád Bokor is an Associate Professor at the Hungarian University of Agriculture and Life Sciences (MATE), Institute of Animal Breeding Sciences. His research focuses on horse breeding, specifically the estimation of genetic parameters for sport and racehorses. His expertise lies in animal breeding, genetics, and performance testing of horses. His work contributes to questions of how racing performance can be correctly measures and genetically evaluated and improved. His theoretical work examines breeding value estimation based on competition results. His empirical work has assessed these theories in settings ranging from the USA and New Zealand to France and the Netherlands, as well as Hungarian contexts. Across his research, he uses genetic modelling and performance estimation methods. He designed and executed research on modelling the growth of pasture-raised thoroughbred foals in New Zealand. His findings are instrumental in the improvement of racehorse performance through genetic selection. He has collaborated with renowned research groups across Europe (e.g., Wageningen University, INRA) and worldwide (Massey University), and he has successfully applied for various research grants nationally and internationally. He won the prestigious Marie Curie fellowship and was awarded the Hungarian State Eötvös Scholarship.

Projects
INTERREG EQUI EDU 2 (HUHR/2401/4.2/110) This recently awarded project is a continuation of the successful EQUI EDU cooperation. It focuses on further developing the equine studies education and competence centre to boost equestrian tourism and professional training in the cross-border region of Hungary and Croatia.
INTERREG EQUI EDU (HUHR/1901/4.1.1/0123/B1) Dr. Bokor served as the professional leader for this cooperation program, which established an equine studies education and competence centre to develop equestrian tourism in the cross-border region.
EFOP-3.4.4-16-2017-0001 Dr. Bokor acted as the professional leader for this project focused on agricultural career orientation. The project aimed to improve the sector's competitiveness and strengthen professional supply through the innovative development of the training environment.
