Overview

Attila Zsolnai is a scientific advisor at the Institute of Animal Sciences, Hungarian University of Agriculture and Life Sciences (MATE), where he works the Molecular Biology Laboratory.

His research focuses on applied agricultural genetics and animal breeding genomics, on genetically based health maintenance, selection and production optimization of farm animals.

The research areas are:
Genetic elimination of and resistance to disease: He pays attention to the screening of hereditary diseases and the investigation of genetic-based resistance.

Genomic analyses and marker research: He performs genome-wide association studies (GWAS) on domestic and/or traditional animal breeds. His goal is to explore the relationships between DNA regions and production traits.

Practical selection methods: He deals with marker-assisted selection (MAS) and the development of innovative rapid genetic tests that can be used in the field and do not require a laboratory background.

Population genetics and pedigree verification: He has extensive experience in verifying the pedigree of various species and in the genetic analysis of their populations.

He works at the borderlands of molecular biology, population genetics and practical animal husbandry, placing great emphasis on improving the genetic quality of the Hungarian livestock and modern diagnostic and maintenance solutions.

Research keywords:
GWAS, DNA- test, population maintenance
