Overview

Hoffmann Orsolya Ivett is a senior research fellow and group leader at the Institute of Genetics and Biotechnology, Hungarian University of Agriculture and Life Sciences (MATE), where she leads the Model Animal Genetics Group.

Her research focuses on transgenesis, precision genome editing, and molecular biological methods to generate and characterize transgenic models, especially in rodents and rabbits. She pioneered the application of transposon-based transgenesis protocols in mammalian systems and has designed and executed studies creating and characterizing transgenic lines with tissue-specific gene expression.

In recent years, her research has increasingly focused on bioinformatics and computational genomics. She applies large-scale sequence analysis, comparative genomics, and database-driven approaches to investigate mitochondrial genome plasticity, nuclear mitochondrial DNA segments (NUMTs), and genome evolution across mammalian species. Her work integrates wet-lab molecular biology with in silico analysis pipelines, contributing to the development and curation of genomic databases and improving the interpretation of high-throughput sequencing data.
